What is Wire Sawing?

This type of sawing got its name because the equipment has a multi-stranded cable or ‘wire’ running through it.  This cable is fitted with diamond beads, which are renowned for their strength and resilience, ensuring they can saw through all kinds of materials, even tough ones like reinforced concrete.  These beaded cables are threaded through a series of pulleys, which are then pulled repeatedly and continuously through the concrete or masonry which is required to be cut.

Does Wire Sawing Create a High Level of Friction and Dust?

You may be concerned that using this wire sawing technique and equipment will create friction and therefore heat and dust, both of which are potential safety and fire risks.  However as the sawing takes place, water is used to cool the wire and the surfaces, which not only serves to eliminate risk of fire or build up of heat, but also has a secondary benefit of keeping the dust to a minimum.  On the subject of safety we can also reassure you and your safety officer that the noise levels associated with wire sawing are also relatively low and what’s more there are no fumes.  Operatives are kept safe when operating our equipment as it is non-percussive, so there is no risk of repetitive strains.  Also, it is controlled with a remote control so the technician operating the equipment does not have to hold the sawing equipment.
