Concrete Chasing

Concrete chasing is an effective technique for cutting neat channels, or chases, into various masonry and concrete structures. These chases are created using power grinders fitted with industrial-grade diamond cutting blades. The grinders allow chase cuts to be made with precise control over depth and width.

Once the channel is cut, small electric breakers are used to remove the remaining inner core of concrete or masonry material. The whole process can be completed efficiently thanks to the powerful tools in our fleet. Our grinders also feature vacuum attachments that extract cement dust as cutting occurs, keeping worksites cleaner.

Both floor chasing and wall chasing are common applications where handheld power grinders, fitted with diamond blades, excel. The adjustable blades can ensure consistent depth for intended purposes like electrical runs. Parallel cuts proportional to fixtures can also be made.

The tools used are well-suited for a wide range of materials like brick, blockwork and concrete. Modern battery or electric powered machines, along with diamond cutting wheels, allow for swift and precise chasing. This makes concrete chasing a core competence and an effective solution for establishing pathways or sockets during new construction or renovation projects. Neatly cut chases accommodate subsequent integration tasks as required.

National Drilling Services provides a full chasing service for commercial and domestic clients, ensuring compliant and dust-free results every time. As a leading contractor, National Drilling Services has the equipment and expertise to complete all your concrete cutting needs.

Concrete Chasing FAQs

Our concrete chasing services can cut channels into most masonry materials including concrete, brick, blockwork, and stone. The diamond blades are very effective on these common structural substrates.

Chase widths can typically range from 10mm to 40mm on one pass, depending on the specific job requirements and the thickness of the material being chased. As for depth, chases are commonly cut from 20mm to 150mm deep to accommodate pipes or cables.

Yes, our power grinders include built-in vacuum attachments that work to extract cement dust and debris as the blades cut. This containment of dust makes for a much cleaner chasing process that avoids dust becoming airborne in work areas.

In some situations, it is possible to chase narrow slots through concrete with rebar reinforcement. The blades have toughened diamonds that can cut through light rebar, but wider chases may require rebar cutting or rerouting. We assess jobs on a case-by-case basis.

Chase cutting times can vary significantly depending on the size and layout of the job. As a general guide, expect 30-90 minutes per linear meter for a standard residential chase. Complex commercial jobs with multiple chases may take over a full day.

Our chasing service includes all necessary cutting equipment, dust containment, measurement, layout, clean-up and disposal of waste materials. We ensure your project meets required standards and specifications.
