Why customers select diamond core drilling

Diamond core drilling is something that our operators at National Drilling Services carry out on a regular basis.  There are many situations where diamond core drilling is a suitable method for creating openings or holes, either on construction sites or civil engineering projects across the UK.  In this article we will examine why our customers repeatedly select diamond core drilling operations to fulfil their requirements on their project sites.  We will also describe the equipment in which National Drilling Services has invested and the benefits of diamond core drilling above other types of drilling methods.

Why customers select diamond core drilling

Diamond core drilling is a technique that will allow our operators to cut through virtually any kind of material, no matter how hard it is or how long it has been in place.  Most commonly we use this method for drilling holes or openings in reinforced concrete.  However, it can also be used for drilling through stone, masonry, asphalt, metal and even glass.

Why might we need to use diamond core drilling to drill holes and openings?

There are a variety of reasons why our customers ask us to use our diamond core drilling equipment to create holes and openings in buildings, structures or sometimes floors.  Often relatively small holes are required for the insertion of pipes or wiring, but we have also drilled through concrete and other materials to create larger openings for ducts, stairwells and lift shafts.  You may also require diamond core drilling equipment to create openings for new windows or small recesses for anchoring bolts. The reason we used diamond core drilling is that diamond is the hardest naturally occurring material which means these drill heads can drill through hard materials without degrading themselves or breaking.

What are the size restrictions for openings for diamond core drilling?

One of the benefits of using diamond core drilling is that we can drill to virtually unlimited depths.  The hole diameter we are able to create can be anywhere between 10mm and 1000mm which provides great versatility, meaning that we can cater for most requirements for diamond core drilling on construction sites all over the UK.

Other benefits of diamond core drilling

Apart from its versatility, as outlined above, diamond core drilling has the advantage of:

  • being fast
  • creating accurate results
  • producing a minimum amount of debris
  • causing only low noise levels
  • having a low HAVS level

Not only that but our diamond core drilling equipment used by the operators at National Drilling Services has a range of power options according to the site situation and restrictions.  We can use hydraulic, electric or air power which means there are no fumes which is especially key when working inside or in a confined space.
