Electric floor sawing reduces the carbon footprint of your site

With COP26 all over the news recently, green ways of working and carbon footprint discussions are high on the agenda for businesses in all industries across the globe. Using electric floor sawing instead of petrol or diesel powered machines, is something that National Drilling Services offer as standard. For the UK construction industry the pressure is on to produce new buildings but in a sustainable way and using methods which do not impact so heavily on the environment. With construction identified as high producers of landfill and waste, now is the time to look at ways of reducing the impact on the environment for every project.

Electric floor sawing – what are the other benefits?

Apart from having a lower impact on the environment than petrol or diesel power, electric floor sawing does also have other benefits. The operators at National Drilling Services often select electric power for floor sawing where there is an enclosed space, such as in a warehouse or hall. Employing electric floor sawing obviously means there are no fumes, so there is no risk to the operator or those working nearby of fume inhalation. Selecting electric floor sawing as an option means there is no need for ventilation. Of course the construction may need ventilation ultimately but often this is not installed at the time when the floor sawing is required.

The electric floor sawing machine we use at National Drilling Services is a circular diamond blade, it is very sharp and efficient. This blade can make cuts up to 600mm in depth.

What is the process involved for electric floor sawing?

The important issue with electric floor sawing is to ensure 100% accuracy. That is why the operators at National Drilling Services always carefully mark out the cutting line first. At this time the surface is also cleaned to ensure there is no loose debris which may impact on the course of the saw.
Due to the speed of the electric floor sawing machine a certain amount of friction can build up. This would result in the blade becoming hot. However, this is not a risk here as the National Drilling Services operators use water to cool down the blade. This has other advantages too, as the water helps to keep the dust down and cleans the cut as it goes. Using water also extends the life of the diamond edged blade of the electric floor sawing machine, therefore adding further environmental benefits.
