Why is it called diamond wire sawing?
Diamond wire sawing is so called as it involves a multi stranded cable or ‘wire’ which is fitted with diamond beads. As one of the hardest and strongest materials available, diamond beads are excellent for cutting through concrete and other materials used in construction. This diamond beaded cable is then threaded through a series of pulleys. As these are pulled continuously, they cut into concrete or masonry. As you may imagine this results in heat caused by friction, so water is used to keep the wire and masonry cool. The water has the added benefit of keeping the dust levels down as well.
Where would you use diamond wire sawing?
Diamond wire sawing is used as mentioned above for cutting through concrete and masonry, but particularly where track wall sawing is not possible due to the size of the structure. This technique can create a deep clean cut with unlimited depths. In areas where there are substantial levels of reinforced concrete this method is very effective. Diamond wire sawing is also commonly used in complex situations where access is restricted, and the speed and accuracy of the cut is important.
Other benefits of diamond wire sawing
Apart from those points highlighted above, there are many other benefits to diamond wire sawing:
- low noise levels
- fast and flexible
- no fumes
- none percussive
- operator controls via remote operation
