Slab Design Change

Project Overview

A specialist concrete flooring contractor instructed National Drilling to undertake the diamond floor sawing of approximately 15,000m through a reinforced concrete floor slab to a depth of 200mm to remove large areas of the floor due to a design change to include large pits and channels that were originally cast.

This work was to be strictly completed within a four-week timeframe.
We were instructed to cut approximately 15,000 meters of reinforced concrete to a depth of 200mm within a strict timescale of 4 weeks to allow the flooring contractor to reinstall the newly designed slabs as per their clients’ request.
As a well-established company we are founder members of the DSA (Drilling & Sawing Association) along with Constructionline, safe contractor and CHAS health and safety accreditations.

How did we ensure our targets were met?

Preplanning of all necessary plant, machinery, equipment, and labour was to be arranged to ensure prompt start as agreed.

Ensuring there were backup saws, generators, water pumps, etc, available for any unforeseeable issues with plant and machinery.

Challenges we faced on this project and how we overcame them.

We had a saw go down due to a belt on the saw snapping, this was resolved by changing the belt on site, as we had pre-empted this could potentially happen, and spares were kept safe by the site supervisor.

Two of the operatives on this project had fallen ill but we were able to supply backup labour the following day to ensure we didn’t get behind and were on target with the deadline.

End Results

We were able to complete the project one week early and to a high standard, leading to the second phase of works being awarded to us.
